Bearing in mind my last exercise, I thought Frank Fontana’s work was perfect to be this week’s photographer.
Fontana has created beautiful abstract landscape photos which are akin to paintings by artists such as Serge Poliakoff and Mark Rothko. He has striped back to the very basics of landscapes so they are just lines, shapes and colour. Given to vibrant colours, you could be forgiven for thinking that they are paintings.
I love the simplicity of them and how simple landscapes can be. They don’t have to be over thinked, full of detail or have trees, water and mountains in to be able to draw a viewer in. I also like the bright blocks of colour which contrast well against each other.
